Boilermaker

Position: Boilermaker

Reporting to: Maintenance Supervisor/ Manager

Location: Gabon

Primary Responsibility:

Conduct welding repairs, fabrication, modification of existing equipment, site set up, general fitting and field fitting of fabricated or repaired and/or modified components.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Proactively promote safety as the central theme of their actions whether engaged on site or off site.
• Proactively identify HSE hazards and implement effective risk management activities – e.g. Hazard / Near Miss Reporting, JSEA for new/special tasks.
• Progressively strive to develop skill levels pertaining to safety management practices and protocols.
• Report all incidents, including accidents and near misses.
• Responsible for the monitoring of conformance with pertinent HSE and legislative requirements and providing accurate, timely feedback to the management team.
• Undertake identified Compliance Activity Requirements within the allotted timeframes.
• Provide on the job training and mentoring of employees within their work section.
• Work with Trainers in the coordination and set-up of work schedules and on-the-job training sessions.
• Specific activities may include boiler-making, welding, fabrication, modification of existing equipment site set up, general fitting and field fitting of fabricated or repaired and/or modified components.
• Inspect and monitor work in progress and ensure quality standards are maintained.
• Co-ordinate activities of units.
• Assist with sourcing and monitoring inventory of all welding equipment, consumables and steel stocks to undertake and complete specific and/or general repairs.
• Complete job record report sheets for all equipment maintained.
• Complete daily time sheets.
• Ensure compliance to safe work policies and procedures and maintain a safe and tidy work environment.
• Assist in the development of maintenance welding and fabrication procedures.
• Adherence to site safety policies and procedures.
• Minimize consumables, steel and PPE wastage.
• Undertake preventative maintenance as per the preventative maintenance program.
• Other duties as directed.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

• Sound knowledge of all aspects of equipment repair including boiler-making, fabricating, light vehicle and truck welding jobs.
• Understand grinding and use of cutting torch
• Good written and verbal communication skills preferable in English
• Sound welding and boiler making knowledge of drilling equipment.

Training & Education Required:

• Minimum completion of secondary schooling
• Certified welding qualifications

Experience Required:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the drilling/exploration industry in welding and boiler making.
• International experience an advantage

Physical Requirements:

• Successfully complete pre-employment medical;
• Must be fit and able to perform the inherent requirements of the job;
• Ability and willingness to travel and work on a roster
