About Us

Geita District Council (Halmashauri ya Wilaya ya Geita) is the locally elected governing body responsible for administering a predominantly rural area in northwestern Tanzania, situated within Geita Region. The council oversees the delivery of essential public services such as water supply, healthcare, education, sanitation, and road infrastructure to a population of approximately 1,035,214 residents (as of 2022), spread over a land area of about 5,295 km² (including around 1,050 km² of Lake Victoria shoreline). Formed in 2012 following the creation of Geita Region, the district was previously part of Mwanza Region.
