Job Purpose
The Sales Manager is responsible for leading and managing the company's sales operations to achieve revenue growth and business objectives. The role oversees sales strategy development, team performance, client acquisition, pipeline management, and sales reporting. The successful candidate will build and lead a high-performing sales team while ensuring consistent achievement of sales targets across all product categories.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Sales Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement monthly and quarterly sales strategies aligned with company revenue goals.
- Set individual and team sales targets and ensure clear communication across the sales department.
- Identify new market opportunities, customer segments, and geographic areas for business expansion.
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline across residential, commercial, institutional, and agent network markets.
- Participate in annual sales planning, budgeting, and revenue forecasting activities.
Team Leadership and Performance Management
- Lead, supervise, and develop Sales Representatives, Sales Supervisors, and other sales personnel.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and monitor achievement of key performance indicators.
- Organize weekly sales meetings to review pipeline progress, sales performance, challenges, and action plans.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback to team members.
- Develop and implement performance improvement plans where necessary.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new sales staff in collaboration with the Human Resources department.
Client Acquisition and Relationship Management
- Identify, pursue, and close high-value sales opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and institutional customers.
- Ensure clients receive a professional and consistent experience throughout the sales and project lifecycle.
- Support customer retention by maintaining strong client relationships and encouraging repeat business.
Reporting and Analytics
- Review and analyze sales reports submitted by team members.
- Prepare and submit weekly sales management reports to senior management.
- Maintain accurate sales pipeline records and dashboards.
- Analyze sales trends and performance data to identify opportunities and areas for improvement.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to improve sales effectiveness and business growth.
Sales Operations and Cross-Department Coordination
- Work closely with operations, production, installation, procurement, and marketing teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure quotations, contracts, measurements, approvals, and related documentation are completed accurately before project commencement.
- Monitor project progress and communicate delays, changes, or operational issues to clients and management.
- Oversee the handover of completed sales agreements to operations and installation teams.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, accountability, and discipline within the sales department.
- Ensure all customer interactions, sales activities, and project updates are properly recorded in company systems.
- Collaborate with the marketing department to align sales campaigns, promotions, lead generation activities, and brand positioning strategies.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven sales experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a sales management or leadership role.
- Demonstrated track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
- Experience in construction, building materials, real estate, or a related industry will be an added advantage.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team management skills.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Swahili.
- Proficiency in CRM systems, sales reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
