Ruangwa District Council is the local government authority for Ruangwa District, which is in the Lindi Region of Tanzania. It governs an area of about 2,516 km². Its economy is largely based on agriculture (employing about 80% of its population), mining (notably graphite), livestock, and trade. The council also plays a role in environmental conservation: for example, it has signed a deal with a carbon-market firm to support forest protection and generate income from carbon credits. As of its latest estimates, the district has a population of roughly 185,573 people.
