Overview
Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) is the official Tanzanian institution responsible for providing and managing financial support (loans and grants) to students pursuing higher education in Tanzania.
HESLB was established under the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board Act, 2004 (with subsequent amendments) and began operations in July 2005. Its mandate is to assist students those admitted to accredited higher-learning institutions but who lack the means to pay for tuition and other study-related costs by issuing study loans or grants.
In addition to issuing funds, HESLB manages the entire loan fund: it controls and administers loan disbursements, maintains records of beneficiaries, supervises repayment and collects back loans so that the fund remains a sustainable revolving fund for future students.
