Overview

LATRA VTS (vts.latra.go.tz) is digital platform developed by the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) of Tanzania. Its primary purpose is to monitor and regulate the movement and safety of commercial vehicles, particularly long-distance passenger buses and freight carriers.

Key Features of LATRA VTS

  • Real-Time Vehicle Monitoring: Utilizes GPS and GSM technologies to provide real-time tracking of vehicles, allowing LATRA and operators to monitor location, speed, and route adherence.
  • Driver Identification: Incorporates a driver identification mechanism, ensuring that only registered and authorized drivers operate the vehicles.
  • Speed and Behavior Analysis: Collects data on driving patterns, including speed and sudden braking, enabling the analysis of driver behavior to promote safety and compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Integration with VTS is mandatory for certain categories of vehicles, such as ‘special hire’ buses, under Regulation 20(b) of the 2020 regulations for hire vehicles.
  • Operational Efficiency: By analyzing data from VTS, transport operators can identify fuel inefficiencies, streamline routes, and reduce operational costs, contributing to more sustainable and profitable operations.
