ASSISTANT PRODUCT MANAGER
Job Description The Assistant Product Manager is the key lead on product innovation, supports the strategic development, implementation, and management of retail banking propositions across the Assets and Liabilities Products. This role bridges customer needs, market trends, and internal capabilities to ensure product competitiveness, profitability, and compliance.
You will assist in monitoring product performance and recommend improvements to improve uptake and profitability, driving end-to-end product lifecycle management from ideation to implementation.
Areas of Focus
- Asset and Liability Products: Management and development.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Harnessing AI technologies to design and launch innovative, cutting-edge products.
- Automation: Lead initiatives to automate processes and streamline operations within Retail Banking.
- Collaboration: Work with digital, bancassurance, and agency banking teams on product roll-outs.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Product Innovation: Lead forward-thinking product solutions to meet evolving market demands.
- Product Development: Support the creation and improvement of Retail banking products by performing market research, evaluating customer needs, and working with cross-functional teams to develop and launch distinctive offerings.
- Market & Competitor Analysis: Conduct regular benchmarking of competitor products, pricing, and features. Identify gaps and opportunities in the bank’s product suite, and prepare reports and recommendations for product differentiation.
- Leveraging AI: Utilize AI capabilities to drive the creation and introduction of innovative products.
- Lifecycle Management: Assist the Product Manager in overseeing the full lifecycle of banking products from initial concept through launch and continuous refinement, ensuring alignment with business goals, profitability, and market competitiveness.
- Pricing & Revenue Optimization: Collaborate with stakeholders to set competitive pricing structures. Monitor interest rate movements, adjust product pricing accordingly, and suggest margin improvements.
- Performance Tracking: Track product performance using key metrics and apply data-driven insights to boost profitability and customer satisfaction.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster innovation by working across teams to develop products that keep pace with market evolution.
- Customer Insight: Gain deep understanding of customer behaviors, preferences, and financial objectives to design products that enhance their banking experience.
- Strategic Pricing: Formulate pricing strategies that promote product adoption, drive revenue growth, and strengthen market positioning. Achieve revenue targets for retail products by implementing effective local and regional pricing strategies.
- Reporting: Develop and present product documentation, reports, and strategic recommendations to management based on performance analysis and market trends.
- Customer Segmentation: Regularly assess customer segmentation criteria and propose targeted product initiatives to attract and retain profitable customer segments in line with the country’s retail strategy.
- Strategic Analysis: Conduct in-depth market analysis to uncover trends, assess competitors, and identify growth opportunities to shape product strategy.
- Operational Requirements: Define both business and operational requirements for each product, ensuring they support the organization’s strategic objectives.
- Sales Strategy: Collaborate with the Sales team, Proposition Leads, and Cluster Managers to formulate effective sales strategies.
- Problem Solving: Apply advanced critical thinking to analyze cross-functional processes and resolve issues related to both new and existing products.
- Financial Analysis: Evaluate product income reports generated by the MI & Analytics or Finance teams and present key insights to the Head of Product & Revenue Assurance.
- Training: Train frontline staff on product features, benefits, and selling points.
