Your Next Career Opportunity – Power Solution Specialist II

The Power Solutions Specialist II occupies a critical role in shaping, deploying, and sustaining robust power infrastructure across telecommunications networks. This position is dedicated to ensuring uninterrupted operations by leveraging an in-depth understanding of generators, rectifiers, solar and hybrid power solutions, as well as the complexities of poor grid systems. Working closely with engineering, operations, and project management teams, the specialist delivers innovative, reliable, and cost-efficient power systems that meet the evolving demands of telecom environments.

What You Will Do – Primary Responsibilities

  • Design & Engineering: Development and optimization of power system architectures tailored for telecom sites. This involves:
  • Generator Systems: Selecting and configuring generator sets for reliable backup and primary power, ensuring compatibility with site load requirements and fuel efficiency standards.
  • Rectifiers and DC Systems: Designing rectifier systems for stable DC power conversion, including redundancy planning and integration with battery banks for uninterrupted service.
  • Solar Arrays and Hybrid Solutions: Engineering solar PV arrays and hybrid energy systems, performing detailed sizing calculations to balance renewable input with generator and grid supply for cost-effective and sustainable operations.
  • Distribution Boards: Calculating and sizing AC and DC distribution boards to meet load demands, incorporating protective devices and compliance with electrical safety standards.
  • Cable Specifications: Defining cable types, sizes for both AC and DC circuits, considering voltage drop, thermal limits, and environmental conditions.
  • Grid Integration: Designing grid-tied solutions with appropriate switching mechanisms, surge protection, Automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) and load-sharing strategies to optimize energy efficiency and minimize operational costs.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage power infrastructure projects from conceptualization to commissioning, ensuring timely, on-budget delivery, and effective integration of advanced technologies such as solar and hybrid systems.
  • Technical Support: Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for complex power-related issues, including generator operations, rectifier performance, solar power optimization, and mitigation of poor grid challenges to maximize uptime and adhere to SLAs.
  • Maintenance vendor Coordination: Oversee vendor performance in preventive and corrective maintenance, including planning, quality checks, and reconciliations. This involves conducting site inspections of power systems such as rectifiers, batteries, diesel generators, and distribution panels, while ensuring full compliance with established standards. Additionally, ensure that all open issues are tracked, prioritized, and closed in a timely manner.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all power systems, including those operating in poor grid environments, adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Innovation & Sustainability: Champion the investigation and implementation of energy-efficient, renewable, and hybrid power solutions, driving reductions in operational costs and environmental impact, especially where grid reliability is low.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of power systems, maintenance activities, incident reports, and prepare regular performance and audit reports for management, with a focus on systems operating under challenging power dynamics.
  • Training & Mentoring: Train junior engineers and technical staff on best practices for managing generators, DC plants, solar and hybrid systems.

What You’ll Need – Qualifications & Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred. Candidates with advanced knowledge or specialized training in power system design and integration will have an added advantage.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in power systems engineering within the telecommunications sector, with direct hands-on exposure to generators, rectifiers, solar, hybrid, and grid systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of AC/DC power systems, backup power solutions, rectifiers, inverters, generators, solar and hybrid technologies, and techniques for managing unstable grid environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in industry standards such as IEE and IEEE. This includes adherence to international and local electrical safety codes for AC/DC systems, compliance with standards for solar, hybrid, and grid-tied configurations, and alignment with performance and environmental requirements. Additionally, skilled in navigating statutory obligations for telecom power infrastructure, ensuring compliance with energy efficiency mandates and sustainability.

Key Competencies

  • Attention to detail and quality assurance
  • Advanced technical design abilities in generators, rectifiers, batteries, solar, hybrid, and grid solutions.
  • Adaptability to new technologies and variable operational environments
  • Customer-focused mindset
