Head of Engineering at DP World Tanzania

Job Function

• Ensure high availability & reliability of equipment for operation.
• Maintaining acceptable standard of facility & infrastructure for terminal communities.
• Upkeep safety and security standard compliance for all company assets.
• Efficient and cost-effective management of resources.

Key Performance Areas

Planning and Budgeting:

• Prepare annual budget and capital expenditure programs.
• Managing and controlling expenses to remain within budget limit.
• Manage capital expenditure within the approved budget and time frame.

Resources Management:

• To ensure availability of appropriate manpower and skills for carrying out maintenance tasks efficiently.
• Planning and executing training and development programs for keeping the staff update on latest maintenance methods and ensure standard and quality services.
• Administration and management of staff.
• Keeping people motivated for taking initiatives for improving efficiency/performance of equipment’s, enhancing safety, reducing consumption of spares/consumable/diesel.
• Motivating people for taking care of environment by reducing pollution of all sorts. Controlling oil spills, check/control of unwanted engine running, conserving electrical power and water.
• Team building and encouragement for achieving goals by teamwork.
• Assessment of skill / performance, rating/grading and rewarding the staff accordingly.
• To keep the team morale high.

Engineering Management and system:

• Implement and follow engineering policy, other policies and directives of Management.
• Management of efficient and economical maintenance of QICT assets.
• Assessments of maintenance tasks to ensure safety compliance and controlling/eliminating safety risks.
• To keep QICT management and regional engineering director posted on status of equipment’s and progress and development in the department.
• Prior procurement of new equipment’s, review and verification of specification to ensure compliance of operation and terminal requirements.
• Liaison with RO, HO civil engineers and manufacture to ensure the equipment’s are compatible with civil works of the terminal.
• Develop and implement store procedures.
• Management of spare parts inventory, maintaining economical inventory levels.
• To motivate people for taking care of environment by reducing pollution of all sorts. Controlling oil spills, checking /controlling unwanted engine running, conserving electrical power and water.
• To ensure maintenance, testing and certification of equipment’s are following statuary requirements.

Performance Management:

• Ensure targets of equipment performance set by the management are achieved.
• Optimizing fuel efficiency and ensure compliance to management targets.
• Control cost per box and ensure compliance to management targets.
• Control cost per box and ensure compliance to management targets.
• Managing capital expenditure within the approved budget and time frame.
• Ensure that all relevant HSE legislations and DP World’s policies are fulfilled and incorporated in department’s strategic / long term plans / policies and implemented accordingly. Keep updated of new development in HSE.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or Related Field.

Experience and Skills Required

• 12 to 15 years of experience of container handling equipment or heavy industries
• Experience of planning and budgeting using computer system like Maximo, etc.
• Well-developed engineering and maintenance planning skills
• Manage capital expenditure within the approved budget
• Manage contracts work with related project management methodology and system
• Having experience of implementation of maintenance policy and develop appropriate programs for mechanical, electrical & electronics works
• Very good communication skills
• Good English language both oral & written
• Good in MS Office programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Strong character with pleasant personality
• Very good leadership skills
