The Key Purpose of this role is to ensure optimum utilization of packaging line, raw materials and people, to produce quality product at minimum cost which meets customer requirements while complying with legislation.
Key roles and responsibilities:
Asset Care
- Partake in the development of the maintenance plan for the packaging hall, contributing suggestions and providing expert advice, Implement the maintenance plan for the packaging hall, ensuring that the maintenance team have the required competencies.
- Ensure that maintenance goals are incorporated into maintenance team and individual goals Audit compliance to the maintenance requirements by both the maintenance team and the shift base teams
- Ensure that maintenance competencies are developed in the maintenance team. Where training needs will be identified, ensure these are addressed
- Exercise budgetary controls over the maintenance requirements of the packaging hall
- Highly Support packaging production plan attainment all the time
Plant Reliability
- Responsible for the overall reliability and up-time of the packaging hall
- Lead the maintenance team in the provisioning of maintenance and engineering support to the shift-based production teams
- Verification to ensure that maintenance teams are carrying out routines and planned maintenance, validate quality of work
- Verification to ensure that the maintenance systems are working properly and that data integrity and information accuracy is maintained
- Reviewing plant reliability to ensure that equipment is operating optimally with high efficiency, identify problems or opportunities timeously
- Taking part in maintenance, production, cost and quality related problem solving, and ensure that the maintenance team is applying the correct VPO problem-solving techniques
Plant Optimisation
- Takes part in the Regional and Central Office plant optimization trials, providing advice, assistance and guidance where required Evaluates impact of new plant and equipment, and signs off all plant and equipment modifications
- Analyses plant performance data to identify opportunities for improvement to plant performance and initiates opportunity evaluation
- Analyses plant failure modes and investigate causes for repeat failures to correct root causes
- Takes part in evaluating continuous improvement opportunities identified by the production teams or engineering support
- Ensures that continuous improvement is built into engineering team goals and forms part of regular goal review sessions
Team Leadership
- Lead the maintenance team in a manner that stimulates ownership, empowerment and team interaction
- Lead the development of maintenance team goals and ensure these are communicated and understood by team members
- Conduct regular maintenance team goal review sessions, and conduct regular one-on-one and performance reviews
- Ensure training need analyses are conducted and training plans developed for team members
- Ensure appropriate competencies are developed in the teams, and ensure cross skilling occurs within the maintenance team
Safety and Housekeeping
- Ensure that the maintenance team apply proper VPO safety and housekeeping procedures, and adhere to all legal requirements when carrying out their tasks
- Ensure implementation of the appropriate ABInBev and legislative policies (such as OSH act) on safety and 5S
- Ensure that safety and 5S Requirements receive the appropriate focus through regular checks and safety audits
- Where unsafe work practice have been identified, the packaging engineer is responsible for correcting this and Drive Safety and legal compliance in the Packaging Hall
Minimum Requirements:
- BSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Production and Maintenance Management with deep expertise in maintenance management
- Experience of managing and running a high - speed packaging line highly advantageous
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in managing people
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance decisions in a packaging hall (financial, operational, people)
- A superior performance track record indicating a disciplined work ethic with passion at maintaining quality
- Mental alertness and analytical ability
- Managing people ability as well as ability to drive performance
- Leadership ability (ability to lead the maintenance planner, controller and a full engineering team)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to develop and control budgets
- Ability to implement appropriate HR processes to manage, motivate and develop
- Ability to manage major shutdowns and complex projects with greater success
- Ability to facilitate problem solving with teams
- High level of resilience and ability to operate in a high-pressure environment
