Job Purpose

The Predictive Model ML/AI Specialist will be responsible for leading the design, development, deployment, and governance of machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions that support commercial objectives. The role focuses on transforming complex data into actionable insights through predictive analytics, enabling data-driven decision-making, enhancing customer experiences, and driving revenue growth.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Commercial Director and senior stakeholders to define, prioritize, and execute the AI/ML roadmap aligned with business and commercial objectives.
  • Develop and implement predictive models that support churn prevention, customer retention, revenue growth, customer segmentation, propensity modelling, and campaign optimization initiatives.
  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning models, from problem definition and data preparation to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain model governance frameworks covering model validation, bias assessment, explainability standards, version control, and production readiness requirements.
  • Ensure predictive models meet established performance standards and business objectives before deployment into production environments.
  • Integrate AI and machine learning outputs into commercial systems, including customer relationship management platforms, campaign management systems, business intelligence dashboards, and customer-facing applications.
  • Enable real-time, insight-driven decision-making by embedding predictive analytics into operational workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including commercial, technology, data engineering, and analytics teams to ensure successful delivery of AI initiatives.
  • Monitor deployed models to assess performance, accuracy, and stability, implementing retraining and optimization strategies where necessary.
  • Ensure all AI and machine learning solutions comply with applicable data privacy and regulatory requirements, including PDPA Tanzania, TCRA directives, and relevant international standards.
  • Promote best practices in machine learning development, including documentation, testing, reproducibility, and continuous integration and deployment methodologies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting capability development and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, methodologies, and industry trends to identify opportunities for enhancing the organization's AI capabilities.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management regarding model performance, business impact, and future opportunities.
  • Support strategic initiatives aimed at maximizing customer value, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing competitive advantage through advanced analytics.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management in line with the objectives of the role.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, predictive modelling techniques, and artificial intelligence concepts.
  • Ability to translate business challenges into practical AI and analytics solutions.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to align technical solutions with business objectives.
  • Knowledge of model governance principles, including explainability, bias detection, validation, and monitoring.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern product delivery methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
  • Leadership capabilities with experience guiding teams and managing end-to-end project delivery.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to quality.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence roles.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a leadership or team lead position overseeing end-to-end model development and deployment.
  • Hands-on experience developing and implementing predictive models in commercial environments.
  • Experience within the telecommunications industry will be highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with telecom datasets and analytics, including Call Detail Records (CDR), subscriber lifecycle analysis, churn modelling, and Customer Value Management (CVM), is strongly preferred.
