Job Description
To coordinate and supervise all import and export shipping operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant movement of goods across international borders, while supporting business needs and minimizing delays and costs.
Key Responsibilities:
Import Duties:
- Coordinate with international suppliers, clearing agents, and regulatory authorities to ensure timely clearance and delivery of imports.
- Follow up on shipping documents such as Bill of Lading, Packing List, Commercial Invoice, and Certificate of Origin.
- Ensure import documentation complies with Tanzanian customs laws and other regulatory bodies (TRA, TBS, TMDA if applicable).
- Monitor ETA and shipping status for incoming containers and arrange inland transportation.
- Liaise with clearing agents to track container clearance and avoid demurrage charges.
- Maintain records of all import shipments, duties paid, and delays for reporting.
Export Duties:
- Coordinate the export of ceramic products to international clients.
- Prepare and verify export documentation (proforma invoices, packing list, EFD receipts, shipping instructions, etc.).
- Arrange bookings with shipping lines and ensure timely container stuffing and dispatch.
- Work with sales and warehouse teams to ensure product readiness and compliance with customer specifications.
- Follow up with forwarding agents for container export clearance and tracking.
Supervisory & Compliance:
- Supervise a team of logistics clerks and loaders in the shipping department.
- Ensure compliance with all local and international trade regulations.
- Support audit requirements and maintain shipment records accurately.
- Communicate with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to resolve shipping or customs issues.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Logistics, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in shipping/logistics, especially in import and export operations.
- Familiarity with Tanzanian import/export procedures and customs documentation.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to use logistics software and Microsoft Excel/Word.
- Knowledge of HS codes, Incoterms, and shipping line procedures.
- Experience in manufacturing or ceramic industry is an added advantage.
