Overview
Makete District Council serves as the local governing authority for Makete District, which lies within the Njombe Region of southwestern Tanzania. Formally established in 1979 amid Ujamaa policy reforms initially under Iringa Region before becoming part of the newly formed Njombe Region in 2012 the district spans approximately 5,800 km², though only about 371 km² of land is arable due to its highland terrain and cooler climate.
