Overview
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a global organization of 191 countries working to foster monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate trade, promote sustainable growth, and reduce poverty by providing policy advice, technical help, and loans to members facing economic difficulties. Established in 1944, it monitors the global economy, helps countries with balance of payments issues, and promotes stable exchange rates, funded by member contributions (quotas) based on economic size, with its HQ in Washington D.C..
