Overview
Njombe Town Council is an administrative district formally established in July 2007 under Tanzania’s Local Government Act No. 8 of 1982 that governs the semi-urban and rural areas surrounding the town of Njombe in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands.
Covering approximately 3,212 km² at an elevation of roughly 1,581 m (ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 m) and divided into two divisions (Njombe Urban and Igominyi), 13 wards, 45 villages, and 28 streets, the council serves a predominantly rural population with only about 10 % classified as urban.
Functioning as one of three local authorities within Njombe Region (alongside Makambako Town and Njombe District councils), Njombe Town Council is responsible for local planning, service delivery, infrastructure maintenance, revenue collection, and coordinating development activities across its jurisdiction
