Overview
Songea District Council is the local government authority responsible for governance and service delivery in the rural district of Songea, which lies within Ruvuma Region in southern Tanzania. The council’s jurisdiction covers a large land area of approximately 16,727 square kilometres, of which roughly 99 % is land and about 1 % is water.
Songea District Council is tasked with providing public administration, infrastructure development, health care, education services, agriculture support, environmental management, and economic development within its boundaries. It shares borders with the Republic of Mozambique to the south-west, Mbinga District to the west, Namtumbo District to the east, and the regions of Iringa and Morogoro to the north.
