Overview
Songea Municipal Council administers Songea Urban District also known simply as Songea Municipality which serves as both the district and regional headquarters of Ruvuma Region in southwestern Tanzania. The municipality spans approximately 616 km² and lies at elevations ranging between about 900 and 1,100 m, reaching up to 1,500 m in areas such as the Matogoro Hills. As of the 2022 national census, Songea Municipality is home to roughly 286,285 resident.
