Lake Tanganyika Co-operative Union Limited (LATCU Ltd) commonly referred to as LATCU is a registered cooperative union, formally established on 11 November 1994 under Tanzania’s Cooperative Act No. 15 of 1991. Since its inception, the union has been headquartered in Mpanda Municipal, providing centralized coordination for multiple primary cooperative societies in the region.
LATCU serves as a vital intermediary for its member societies currently totaling 21 Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies (AMCOS) facilitating a range of services such as price registration on behalf of members, extension services for farmers, negotiating contracts with buyers, and organizing tobacco marketing activities. In effect, LATCU positions itself as the collective voice representing local farming communities.
