Overview
The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) is an independent regulatory authority in Tanzania established under the Personal Data Protection Act No. 11 of 2022.
Its mandate is to oversee and enforce the country’s data protection regime, which includes registering entities that collect, process or store personal data; investigating complaints and breaches; issuing compliance and enforcement directives; promoting public awareness and training in data protection; and ensuring that processing of personal data aligns with internationally recognised principles of privacy, security, transparency and accountability.
