Job Description
To maintain accurate, complete, and timely accounting records for the operations, ensuring compliance with IFRS, local statutory requirements, and Group accounting policies.
Supports financial integrity and regulatory compliance by managing general ledger accounting, balance‑sheet reconciliations, and statutory reporting processes. Operating in a highly regulated environment, the role provides reliable financial information to support management reporting, audits, and effective decision‑making.
Key Performance Objectives | Tasks
General Ledger Accounting & Month‑End Close
- Maintain accurate general ledger records in line with Group chart of accounts
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, provisions, and adjustments
- Perform monthly balance sheet and P&L reconciliations
- Support month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes
- Ensure timely and accurate closing in line with Group reporting timelines
Statutory Reporting & IFRS Compliance
- Prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local regulations
- Ensure compliance with local accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accounting policies and ensure consistent application
- Support consolidation and Group reporting requirements
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Audit Management & Compliance Support
- Support internal and external audit processes
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Address audit queries and implement agreed audit recommendations
- Ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails are maintained
- Support regulatory reviews and inspections where applicable
Balance Sheet Integrity & Control
- Maintain strong control over balance sheet accounts
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly
- Ensure timely clearance of suspense and intercompany accounts
- Monitor prepaid expenses, accruals, and provisions for accuracy
- Ensure balance sheet reflects true and fair financial position
Intercompany & Group AccountinG
Process and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances § Ensure intercompany charges are accurate and supported by agreements § Support intercompany confirmations and settlements § Ensure compliance with Group transfer pricing and accounting policies § Resolve intercompany differences in collaboration with Group Finance
Systems, Processes & Data Integrity
- Ensure accurate accounting data capture in ERP and finance systems
- Support system upgrades, implementations, and process improvements
- Maintain master data integrity within finance systems
- Identify accounting process inefficiencies and recommend improvements
- Align local accounting practices with Group standards and best practice
Stakeholder Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with Management Accounting, Credit, Treasury, and Commercial teams
- Support Finance leadership with accounting insights and analysis
- Respond to accounting‑related queries from internal stakeholders
- Provide accounting guidance to non‑finance teams where required
- Build effective working relationships across the organisation
Team Development & Knowledge Sharing
- Support coaching and development of junior accounting staff
- Share accounting best practices and standards within the Finance team
- Support succession planning and continuity of accounting knowledge
- Demonstrate accountability, accuracy, and professionalism in all deliverables
- Contribute to a strong control‑focused finance culture
Qualifications
- Diploma in accounting, Finance, or related field
- Bachelor’s Degree or professional accounting qualification (CA(SA), CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) advantageous
Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in financial or general accounting roles
- Strong experience in general ledger, reconciliations, and statutory reporting
- Experience in regulated or multi‑entity environments
- Exposure to media, broadcasting, telecommunications, or subscription‑based businesses advantageous
- Experience working in African markets or multi‑currency environments preferred
