Job Description
We are a fast-growing startup offering luxury transportation services to a prestigious clientele. We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and strategic Transportation Manager to lead our fleet operations. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping our service delivery and operational excellence while acting as a key driver of our success. The ideal candidate will possess leadership capabilities, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to think like a business owner.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end daily fleet operations, ensuring optimal vehicle condition and availability.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of professional drivers – act as a mentor, trainer, and performance manager.
- Be responsible for the full driver lifecycle – hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and terminations.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, HR protocols, and Tanzanian labor regulations.
- Monitor fleet performance, conduct daily inspections, and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Implement and manage safety and cleanliness standards across the entire vehicle fleet.
- Coordinate and manage driver schedules to ensure adequate coverage during peak and non-peak hours.
- Establish and maintain operational KPIs to measure efficiency, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Proactively identify and solve operational bottlenecks with innovative, outside-the-box solutions.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align transportation operations with overall business goals.
- Manage vendor and supplier relationships related to fleet servicing, maintenance, and parts.
- Oversee budget for fleet operations including maintenance costs, staffing, and repair expenses.
- Contribute to strategic planning for business growth, technology adoption, and service expansion.
Qualifications and Experience
- - Minimum of 5 years’ experience in transportation/fleet management, preferably in a luxury or high-touch customer service environment.
- - Proven leadership and team management experience – must be able to inspire and manage a diverse team.
- - Strong working knowledge of fleet maintenance protocols and regulatory compliance.
- - Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- - Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities under pressure.
- - Experience managing HR processes and policies related to driver and vehicle operations.
- - Fluent in both English and Swahili.
- - Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call as needed.
- - Tech-savvy and open to using fleet management tools or apps.
