Job Purpose

To support the delivery of agricultural insurance services by providing agronomic expertise in risk assessment, claims verification, and farmer engagement. The role ensures operational efficiency, accurate risk evaluation, and contributes to expanding agricultural insurance penetration and financial inclusion.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Conduct field visits to assess crop conditions, soil quality, and farming practices.
  • Prepare agronomic reports to support underwriting decisions.
  • Identify key agricultural risks (weather variability, pests, diseases).
  • Support crop-specific risk profiling (e.g., maize, rice, coffee, cotton, cashew).
  • Investigate and validate agricultural insurance claims through field assessments.
  • Determine cause and extent of losses.
  • Prepare detailed claims reports within agreed turnaround times.
  • Support fair and timely claims settlement processes.
  • Provide agronomic advice to farmers and agribusiness clients.
  • Support awareness and education initiatives on agricultural insurance.
  • Collaborate with distribution channels (banks, SACCOS, aggregators).
  • Contribute to development and enhancement of agricultural insurance products.
  • Provide insights on seasonal and regional agricultural trends.
  • Support implementation of index-based and digital insurance solutions.
  • Collect and maintain accurate agricultural and field data.
  • Generate reports on risk trends, claims patterns, and field observations.
  • Support internal teams with agronomic insights for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal teams: Operations, Claims, Underwriting, Sales, Actuarial.
  • Engage with external stakeholders including farmers, agribusinesses, NGOs, and regulators such as Ministry of Agriculture Tanzania.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, or related field.
  • Master’s degree /Agricultural Certification is an added advantage for this role.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in agricultural insurance or financial services is preferred.
  • Business acumen, strong understanding of Tanzanian’s agricultural systems and crops.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with strong communication abilities in both English and Swahili for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, to support daily operations and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities to address challenges and drive effective outcomes.
  • Solid agronomic expertise, including knowledge of crops, soil, and climate, supported by risk assessment and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and produce clear reports, with a basic understanding of insurance principles and risk management.
