Job Description
Responsible for the independent oversight of the credit risk profile for the banks Wholesale portfolio. This role serves as the Second Line of Defense, focusing on ensuring that all corporate lending activities adhere to the banks risk appetite, established credit policies, and regulatory requirements in line with ERMF framework.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide independent second-line perspective on credit risks across the Wholesale Banking segment through systematic identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of risk issues.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of corporate exposures, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and strategic objectives.
- Contribute to periodic reviews of all credit and credit risk-related governance documents, including policies, manuals, risk appetite statements, combined assurance plans, and Terms of Reference.
- Ensure adherence to local and international banking regulations, including BOT regulations and Basel requirements.
- Execute comprehensive reviews for credit functions in alignment with Credit Risk Annual Plan, Strategy, and Combined Assurance Plan.
- Facilitate regular and event-triggered credit portfolio assessments, ensuring effective early warning identification, root-cause analysis, stakeholder engagement, and remedial action implementation.
- Monitor individual client and portfolio-level credit risk limits, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory exposure guidelines.
- Prepare insightful reports and presentations on corporate credit risk landscape, performance trends, and key exposure metrics for Credit Committees, Risk Committee, and Senior Management.
- Maintain effective working relationships with first and third line of defense as the voice for credit risk matters.
- Support stakeholders in adhering to lending governance through coaching and knowledge sharing to optimize credit risk management.
- Stay current with macroeconomic, regulatory, and sector-specific developments impacting corporate credit risk.
- Serve as credit risk advocate in assigned business segments, processes, and projects, ensuring credit risk considerations are embedded in strategic initiatives.
- Support Senior Manager on ensure all corporate credit risk practices comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Assist Senior Manager Credit Risk in strategic initiatives and provide backup leadership as required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Extensive knowledge and experience on corporate facilities including on and off balance sheet facilities.
- Wider understanding of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework for the Bank and lines of defence phenomena.
- In depth understanding of all Wholesale Banking and Credit related products and services including key sectors contributing to these portfolios.
- Desired knowledge on entire credit activities value chain for Wholesale including but not limited to origination, appraisal, approval, documentation and limits capturing & maintenance, monitoring, Special Assets Management.
- Desired knowledge in the multisectoral aspects and key Risks within assigned portfolio including concentrations, structural and other dynamics, and related laws in Tanzania.
- Independent judgment and ability to challenge business decisions.
- Strong computer skills proficient in outlook, word, excel and power point presentations.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Banking, Business Administration, Accounts and Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or Economics or other relevant fields of study.
- Certification(s) in risk management or Banking certification is an added advantage.
- Master's degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of Four (4) years' working experience in a Bank or financial Institution or any closely related environments.
- At least one (1) year in Credit Risk Management, Credit or Originations.
