Job Description

Reviewing proposal forms, verifying client’s data, assessing the proposed risk within set standards, counterchecking the terms of the policy as well as reviewing the conditions of the policy. The role will report to the assistant underwriting manager.

Key responsibilities

  1. Assist the Underwriting Manager in working and laying out competitive insurance premium quotations as requested for presentation to clients and brokers after approval. 
  2. Prepare of insurance policy documents, endorsements and other documents using approved wordings. 
  3. Paramount customer service by providing friendly, timely and accurate service to clients as per set standards. 
  4. Prompt and technically correct acceptance and underwriting of risks consistence as per treaty programs and company standards. 
  5. Collect premiums before cover attaches for all banks clients. Any deviations must be approved by the Underwriting Manager in liaison with the COO/CEO.
  6.  Correctly issue documents to clients within the set turn-around time. 
  7. Lay out clear and detailed premium calculations separately for each document with necessary cross reference in the files and ensure proper filing of necessary documents in each file. 
  8. Promptly and appropriately respond to incoming mail, emails, phone calls and correspondence assigned to you. 9) Set priorities and manage workflow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities in order to meet set monthly budgets
  9.  Prompt and timely processing of renewals and vigorous follow up of renewals from clients and brokers/ agencies to ensure we retain the organic business.
  10. Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with market players in order to maximize opportunity to place business and win in competition with other insurers. 
  11. Interact with co-workers and superiors effectively and constructively by effective communication, cooperating purposefully and providing information and guidance, as needed to achieve the business goals of the company. 
  12. Diarize work for easy follow up and response on time. 
  13. Take major/unusual risk only with proper guidance from the Underwriting Manager. 
  14. Delegated Authority: As per the approved Delegated Authority Matrix 
  15. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time 
  16. Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departments' strategy map, balance scorecard and personal scorecard.

Working Relationships

Internal Relationships: 

  • Accountable to the Underwriting Manager
  • Required to liaise and work closely with the other departments as may be necessary

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required

  1. Bachelor’s degree (insurance option preferred) 
  2. Professional qualification in Insurance (CII certificate) 
  3. 2-4 years’ experience in the insurance industry

Technical/ Functional competencies

  2. Knowledge of underwriting processes and procedures
