The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Graduate Learning and Development Officer to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and administration of learning and development programs across mining operations
  • Support the delivery of onboarding, site inductions, and role-specific training for employees, contractors, and visitors
  • Coordinate training logistics including scheduling, venue bookings, trainer availability, travel, and training materials
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records, competencies, and qualifications in the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Support compliance with statutory, regulatory, and company training requirements, including safety-critical training
  • Assist with the development, review, and updating of training materials, procedures, and learning resources
  • Support the implementation of competency-based training and assessment frameworks
  • Assist in identifying skills gaps and training needs in collaboration with operational leaders, safety teams, and HR
  • Collect, analyze, and report on training data, attendance, completion rates, and competency outcomes
  • Support the evaluation of training effectiveness using feedback, assessments, and performance metrics
  • Assist with the coordination of external training providers, registered training organizations (RTOs), and internal trainers
  • Support leadership and supervisor development initiatives, including coaching and mentoring programs
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance learning delivery, systems, and processes
  • Assist with workforce capability planning and succession development initiatives
  • Support the rollout of digital learning solutions, e-learning modules, and blended learning approaches
  • Contribute to learning projects such as system implementations, program redesigns, or pilot initiatives
  • Participate in site visits and operational meetings to understand training requirements and operational challenges
  • Support audit preparation and responses related to training and competency compliance
  • Ensure learning and development activities align with company values, safety standards, and operational priorities
  • Comply with all workplace health and safety policies and actively promote a safety-first culture 

Qualification requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or near completion) in:Human ResourcesLearning and DevelopmentEducationPsychologyBusiness or a related discipline 

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Practical experience gained through university projects, placements, or internships related to learning, training, or HR 
  • Exposure to operational or industrial environments is advantageous
  • Experience supporting training initiatives, workshops, or learning events is desirable 
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and training methodologies
  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
  • Basic knowledge of competency-based training frameworks
  • Awareness of safety and compliance requirements in high-risk industries such as mining (desirable)
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
  • Analytical skills to interpret training data and feedback
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn in a dynamic operational environment
  • Possess a valid light vehicle manual-class driving license.
  • Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to HSE best practice.
  • Ability to consistently manage such a diversified portfolio in a high-pressure environment.
  • Highly professional conduct at all times and the ability to deal with a diverse client base.
  •  Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools

About the Team

The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit). The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
