Position Description
The Service Crew Trainer – Expert is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating high-quality training programs for underground service crew personnel. This role ensures employees are competent, safety-focused, and fully compliant with operational standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Working closely with operational leadership, the Trainer will build workforce capability through structured training, competency assessments, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening safety performance, operational discipline, and productivity across the underground mining operation.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical underground training for service crew personnel.
- Facilitate hands-on competency training covering underground support, installation, Ventilation, services, air, water, pump lines. installing cable bolts intersections & grouting & tensioning, building vent walls, installing vent fans,55kw,90kw,110kw,220kw.
- Conduct competency assessments using approved assessment tools and maintain accurate training records.
- Coach and mentor employees in safe work practices, hazard identification, equipment operation, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Identify competency gaps and develop targeted training plans to improve workforce capability.
- Develop, review, and maintain training materials, SOPs, presentations, competency assessments, and training documentation.
- Ensure all training materials comply with site standards, OEM recommendations, and statutory mining requirements.
- Continuously review and improve training programs to align with operational requirements and industry best practice.
- Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture by integrating critical risk controls and safety leadership into all training activities.
- Ensure all training complies with Barrick standards & procedures
- Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and the implementation of corrective actions where required.
- Work closely with Mine Foremen, Supervisors, Planning, and Training teams to ensure training supports operational and production objectives.
- Monitor workplace performance and provide constructive feedback and coaching to employees and supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 7–10 years' underground mining experience, preferably within a service crew or related underground operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in underground service installations, including ventilation, water, compressed air, pumping systems, utilities, and ground support installation, moving of refuge chambers, when required, Mono-& fish tank moves, helping with the movement of Flygt pumps around the mine, making sure underground water pumping system is cleaned as per schedule
- Nice to have recognized Trainer and Assessor qualification (Train-the-Trainer, TAE or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of underground mining, in the field of rapid development safety management systems, risk management, and operational standards.
- Excellent communication, coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to assess competency and develop national workforce capability in an underground mining environment.
Desirable
- Previous supervisory or Leading Hand experience within underground mining operations.
- Current First Aid, Emergency Response Team (ERT), or Mine Rescue qualifications.
