Job Title: Heavy Duty Mechanic Department: Machinery Reports To: Machinery Supervisor Location: Hesu HQ, Dar es Salaam Deadline: March 15, 2026
Company Overview Hesu Investment Ltd operates an Inland Container Depot (ICD) facility with a capacity for 3,800 TEUs. The company is a key player in the Container and Transport Logistics industry in Tanzania, focusing on high-quality ICD and CFS services.
Job Purpose The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of the company's heavy-duty fleet and machinery. The primary goal is to minimize operational downtime by ensuring all equipment meets safety and performance standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repair
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and construction machinery.
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, axles, braking systems, and electrical components.
- Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, and system adjustments.
- Conduct diagnostic tests for mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
Specialized Machinery Support
- Provide technical support for Port Machinery including reach stackers, forklifts, skid steer loaders, and overhead cranes.
- Maintain Construction Machinery such as excavators, motor graders, wheel loaders, and bulldozers.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide roadside assistance when necessary.
Quality and Safety
- Test all equipment post-repair to ensure functionality and safety compliance.
- Maintain accurate records through job cards and service reports.
- Adhere strictly to workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations and use proper PPE.
- Maintain workshop tools and provide guidance to junior mechanics.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Certificate or Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Heavy Equipment Mechanics.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.
- Proven experience with heavy trucks, construction equipment, or industrial machinery.
- Experience with port machinery (reach stackers, terminal handling equipment) is a significant advantage.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Valid driving license; a heavy vehicle license is an added advantage.
- Physical stamina to work in demanding environments.
