Mechanical Engineer at DP World Tanzania

Job Function (Fixed Term Contract):

Conduct the maintenance (preventive, corrective and breakdown) of terminal equipment in the most efficient and effective manner, making sure that jobs are done in the quickest and most cost-effective way, keeping in mind quality and safety protocols. Supervise and provide efficient and effective maintenance service for terminal equipment’s.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist Superintendent or Senior Engineer to prioritize tasks that are critical to operations
• Ensure maximum operational availability of equipment by supervising and assisting with diagnostics and specifying repair methods to be carried out by a group of skilled technicians
• Submit routine inspection and monitoring reports when deemed necessary
• Carry out duties independently upon call out and allocate jobs to technicians and mechanics and report breakdowns and faults
• Assume additional responsibility for terminal equipment in the absence of the Superintendent or Senior Engineer
• Ensure that emergency work is followed up by reporting to the Superintendent or Senior Engineer
• Ensure work practice conforms to safety regulations and procedures
• Ensure that all preventive maintenance is conducted as defined in the system
• Ensure accurate, up to date information is provided in the work order for input into the system
• Take ownership of preventive maintenance scheduling and make sure all items in the checklists are performed in a timely manner
• Assist technicians and mechanics and electricians in complex maintenance tasks
• Perform periodical scheduled performance review with reporting personnel
• Record Number and nature of accidents. Ensure safety principles are followed
• Ensure economical, efficient, and productive use of the department’s equipment and manpower

Qualifications Required:

• Bachelor Educational Degree in Mechanical / Marine / Mechatronics engineering and other relevant fields.
• Must be registered by CRB.

Experience and Skills Required:

• Preferable experience in working on heavy equipment in ports, mining, steel industries
• Detailed knowledge of repair and maintenance of Engines, Hydraulic Transmission, Lubrication / Greasing, Wheels & Tires, Axle, Sheaves/pulleys Gearbox, Brakes & Torque etc.
• Familiarization of R.A & SOP for wire ropes replacement, load handling, & other Heavy Mechanical jobs
• Concepts of PLC controls
• Knowledge of OEM standards
• Conversant with technical/ parts manuals, and drawings
• Fully conversant with safety procedures
