Job Description

Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring project plans to ensure engineering and construction projects are executed on time, within budget, and to required quality standards. This role ensures effective coordination between technical teams, contractors, and stakeholders by providing accurate scheduling, resource planning, progress tracking, and risk analysis. The Planner Engineer supports decision-making by delivering reliable project forecasts and ensuring compliance with safety, legal, and organizational requirements.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Develop and maintain a multi-year and annual maintenance & engineering plan covering equipment, infrastructure, buildings and utilities.
  • Coordinate with operations, planning and engineering teams to understand equipment usage, downtime events, and forecast maintenance demand.
  • Schedule preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and minimize operational disruption.
  • Allocate resources (labor, spare parts, contractors) and prepare detailed job plans, work orders and timelines.
  • Track and monitor progress of maintenance jobs, update status, report variances, delays and reasons.
  • Analyze equipment reliability data, downtime trends and maintenance KPIs to recommend improvements, root-cause elimination and cost optimization.
  • Liaise closely with Operations/Planning team to align maintenance shutdowns with vessel/yard schedules, so operations are minimally impacted.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environment & security (HSE&S) rules and terminal standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement of maintenance planning processes and tools (e.g., CMMS usage, parts inventory optimization).

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Marine Engineering and any other related bachelor's degree will be considered.

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 5 – 8 years’ experience in maintenance/engineering planning within a container terminal, port or heavy industrial environment (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of container terminal operations: quay cranes, RTGs/Re-stackers, yard equipment, container flows.
  • Experience with Maintenance Management Systems (Maximo).
  • Excellent planning, scheduling and analytical skills; ability to interpret equipment failure data and prepare improvement plans.
  • Solid communicator, able to interface with operations, maintenance, contractors, and vendors.
  • Proficient with MS Office (especially Excel) and ability to generate reports and dashboards.
  • Good knowledge of HSE standards, safe working practices in heavy equipment/port environment.
