Job Description
At the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), you’ll join a diverse, global community working across cultures, disciplines, and borders to address the world’s most pressing development challenges. With 1.2 billion young people reaching working age in the decade ahead, the challenge of job creation has never been greater. Through partnerships across 145 countries and more than 182 offices worldwide, we work with governments, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in people, strengthen markets, and deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that generate more and better jobs and improve lives. In fiscal year 2026, IFC committed a record $105.6 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries. For more information, visit www.ifc.org.
IFC is recruiting an Investment Officer for its Africa Infrastructure department. The department originates, executes, and supervises investments in energy, transport, digital, oil and gas, mining, and municipal and environmental infrastructure. The role will cover infrastructure sectors across Eastern Africa, with a significant equity focus. The position is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and reports to the Regional Industry Manager, Infrastructure, Eastern Africa.
Duties and accountabilities:
- Source and assess investment opportunities with focus on equity, identify bankable projects, and prepare decision materials.
- Originate, evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close complex debt and equity transactions.
- Lead transaction execution and ensure agreed requirements are completed on time and to standard.
- Manage portfolio projects, restructurings, capital increases, equity sales, and development-results reporting.
- Coordinate with environmental, social, legal, and technical colleagues to deliver sustainable client solutions.
- Develop sector, country, and client strategies that build a robust infrastructure investment pipeline.
- Collaborate across WBG institutions, represent IFC externally, and mentor less-experienced colleagues.
Selection Criteria
- Master's degree in finance or a closely related field.
- At least eight years of relevant experience in development finance, banking, private equity, or infrastructure investment.
- Proven record of sourcing, structuring, and closing private infrastructure investments, ideally in Africa.
- Strong project-finance, equity-investment, credit-analysis, and complex transaction-structuring skills.
- Deep market knowledge in at least one infrastructure sector and understanding of regional challenges.
- Strong business-development, client-relationship, portfolio-supervision, and senior-stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English, strong interpersonal skills, and willingness to travel.
As the World Bank Group continues to evolve, we value candidates who:
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, disciplines, cultures, and institutional boundaries.
- Responsibly leverage digital and AI-enabled tools to enhance productivity, learning, and decision-making.
- Bring experience working in fragile, conflict-affected, and violent (FCV) contexts and are encouraged to highlight relevant experience in their application materials, where applicable.
WBG Culture Attributes:
1. Sense of urgency: Anticipate and quickly respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
2. Thoughtful risk-taking: Challenge the status quo and push boundaries to achieve greater impact.
3. Empowerment and accountability: Empower yourself and others to act and hold each other accountable for results.
