Job Description

The HR Manager is responsible for overseeing the on-site HR function, ensuring compliance with labour laws, fostering a productive workforce, and implementing HR strategies aligned with overall business objectives. This position is based in the Lake Zone, and the ideal candidate should have prior experience working within the mining or heavy industry sector

Responsibilities

  • Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding of employees, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  • In conjunction with the head of HR on site, manage employee grievances, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution in line with company policies and labour laws.
  • Develop and implement educational programs to enhance awareness of company
  • policies, workers’ rights, and workplace responsibilities
  • Ensure strict compliance with company policies and legal requirements for all disciplinary cases and oversee the preparation of necessary reports.
  • Oversee payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and compensation structures to ensure timely and accurate salary payments.
  • Ensure provision of industrial relations training and workshops for management and employees to improve understanding of labour laws and conflict resolution
  • Ensure strict compliance with company policies and legal requirements for all disciplinary cases and oversee the preparation of necessary reports.
  • Represent the company and actively participate in Joint Standing Negotiations on Collective Agreements, union meetings, labor disputes, arbitration and external industrial relations engagements.
  • Coordinate with department heads to forecast staffing needs and implement workforce planning strategies to meet the staffing needs of the project.
  • Generate HR analytics and reports for management decision-making, including workforce trends, absenteeism, and attrition rates.
  • Oversee performance appraisal systems and provide feedback to employees and management to drive productivity and career growth.
  • Collaborate with senior management team to drive employee engagement initiatives to improve workplace culture and job satisfaction.
  • Manage and facilitate any harmful behavior incidents in conjunction with the Head of HR
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with branch trade unions, employees, and key stakeholders to foster a productive work environment.
  • Lead and manage organizational change initiatives related to workforce management to improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversee performance appraisal systems and provide feedback to employees and management to drive productivity and career growth.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of HRIS to ensure accurate employee records and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team to implement and manage wellness programs, employee assistance programs, and workplace safety training.
  • Implement HR strategies aligned with the overall business objectives.
  • Conduct audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with HR policies.
  • Develop, review, and enforce HR policies and procedures tailored to the mining sector.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role in the mining or heavy industry sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in human resources management is preferred

  • Proficiency in HR Information Systems (HRIS), payroll management, and HR data analytics.
  • Must have broad understanding of all the functional areas of Human Resource Management
  • Experience in handling union negotiations and industrial disputes.
  • Deep understanding of the mining or heavy industry sector’s unique challenges, including site operations and safety regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws, industrial relations, and HR best practices.
