Bulk and Port Operations Manager at Impala Terminals Tanzania

Operational Excellence Coordinate and manage the allocation of bulk cargo to optimize the efficiency and ensure safe, timely discharge and handling of bulk commodities and optimized vessel turn around as well as truck turnaround inside the facility.

Oversee and manage bulk warehouse operations, including vessel discharge, receiving, handling, bagging, storage, inventory management, and dispatch.

Address any operational challenges or issues that may arise during vessel and warehouse operations and implement corrective measures.

Operations

• Optimize the utilization of equipment and resources to achieve cost-effective operations.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams and vendors to ensure the availability and reliability of terminal equipment.
• Implement and enforce safety protocols to guarantee a safe and secure working environment.
• Assist in improving and implementing required changes concerning the quality management system.
• Stay abreast of industry regulations and ensure all operations adhere to all relevant standards.
• Review and optimize all current standards operating procedures.
• Streamline operational processes to enhance efficiency and minimize turnaround times.
• Propose system improvements through digitization and technology.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate record-keeping.
• Perform any other duties that may be required from time to time as directed by your Superiors.
• Execute all bulk vessels from start to end.

Leadership

• Lead and motivate a team of bulk operational staff and vendors by providing technical guidance and support.
• Set and track goals and key performance indicators that are in line with the companies’ vision and strategic objectives.
• Conduct regular training sessions to enhance team skills and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
• Regular reporting on activities, vessel completion, stock balance etc.

Customer Relations

• Collaborate with customer service teams to address client inquiries and concerns.
• Ensure Deadlines and SLAs are met and adhered to.
• Work towards meeting or exceeding customer expectations regarding service levels and delivery timelines.

HSEC

• Ensure hazard identification risk assessments are in place for all bulk projects.
• Implement emergency response planning to control hazards.
• Collaborate with customer service teams to address client inquiries and concerns.
• Continuous reporting of near misses and HELP cards related to bulk operations.
• Demonstrate HSEC leadership continuously.
• Through the appointed vendors ensure that housekeeping is continuously of high standard
• Ensure safe and effective storage of all bulk and bagged cargo as per customers’ requirements.

Port Operations

• Coordinating and monitoring loading and tallying activities at various ICDs and Port terminals.
• Overseeing ports documents preparation for import shipments and share with freight controllers for preparation of pre-alerts documents.
• Engaging with clearing agents and follow up customs clearance processes.
• Tracking customs clearance and cargo movements and maintaining visibility of the arrived and expected to arrive shipments.
• Liaising with transporters, customs clearance agents, ICDs, Port terminals other logistics partners
• Coordinating with internal teams (Freight controllers, operations, finance) to smoothly managing the available projects.
• To monitor loading of the special project and ensuring loading and handling is being conducted as prescribed instructions.
• To manage ground team of imports operations controllers.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Strong experience on Bulk handling and Health & safety.
• A holder of a bachelor’s degree.
• Managing break bulk and technical loading plans.
• Initiative to work independently.
• Proficiency in warehouse operations management.
• Sound understanding of HR practices and employee management.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Proficient in relevant software applications and systems.
