Mining Manager | Operational Readiness and Execution | Nyanzaga Gold Project
- Lead mine preparation and execution at a new open pit gold operation through the development of high performing team
- 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off roster
- Fly to site from your point of hire, anywhere in the world
The Role
Perseus Mining Limited is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Mining Manager to lead open pit operations at the Nyanzaga Gold Project in Africa, starting with mine readiness and progressing through to steady-state production.
Reporting to the General Manager, this role will establish safe and efficient mining operations from the ground up. The Mining Manager will oversee pre-production works, contractor mobilisation, infrastructure delivery, and team onboarding, followed by full operational leadership once mining commences.
This is a hands on leadership role, managing a diverse workforce and delivering across performance, safety, and cost.

- Develop mine plans in collaboration with technical and planning teams
- Monitor and report on compliance to approved plans, including variance management
- Oversee pre-stripping and early mine development
- Lead commissioning of mine infrastructure
- Recruit, onboard, and manage the Perseus mining workforce
- Implement SOPs, emergency procedures, and safety systems
- Monitor readiness KPIs and close any gaps
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and statutory obligations
- Conduct risk assessments and readiness reviews
- Lead open pit mining activities: drill, blast, load, and haul
- Oversee contractor performance and cross-functional integration with a focus on developing a single team culture
- Provide regular reporting to site leadership
About You
We’re looking for a performance driven mining leader with strong operational and contractor management experience, capable of building systems and teams from the ground up in a dynamic project environment.
To succeed in this role, our ideal candidate will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 10 years’ open pit mining experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role
- Demonstrated experience in mine preparation and operational readiness
- Strong leadership skills, with a focus on team performance, systems, and accountability
- Well-developed planning, problem-solving, and decision-making capability
- In-depth knowledge of open pit mining methods, equipment, and mine planning software
- Strong understanding of safety and environmental compliance requirements
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across departments and cultures

Where You’ll Be Working
Located in East Africa’s resource-rich Lake Victoria Goldfields, the Nyanzaga Gold Project is Perseus’s first operation in Tanzania. Nyanzaga is currently in the early stages of construction, following a Final Investment Decision made in April 2025. First gold production is targeted for early 2027.
The project places strong emphasis on sustainability and community development, with programs focused on local employment, infrastructure investment, and long-term social and environmental outcomes.
