Job Description
To plan, organize and direct packaging activities including maintenance so as to deliver target packaged volumes to match sales forecast. To ensure efficient and cost effective production of all SBL brands to meet both local and export demand and achieve the company’s strategic objective of remaining the market leader in premium beverage production in Africa. To manage inter departmental alignment.
Upholding standards through practices
- Oversight of all Tier 2Best Practices
- Drive Packaging RCPS pushing for 100 year fix
- Oversight of the Cleaning and Contract Labour contracts as the Packaging Contract Owner
- Partner with Asset care leads to Maintain and improve asset quality and reliability through effective use of Diageo AC systems.
- Lead disciplined execution to Internal standards, regulatory standards, and controls across Packaging and more specifically own the CARM Controls relevant to Materials Receipts and Despatches
- Is a member of the SBL Food Safety Committee
- Ensure implementation of Food safety, Quality, Environment, Health and Safety Management Systems according to FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 requirements respectively.
- Ensure implementation of relevant Diageo risk management standards (GRMS, DWB, DWMS etc.)
- Drive Medium term Tactical plans drawn for the department for Delivery, Safety, Quality, cost and Controls.
Problem solving for performance
- Respond immediately to issues escalated as they are exposed.
- Coach direct reports to identify areas of under-performance.
- Encourage a breakthrough mind-set to problems faced and empower people to take ownership
- Role model the use of systemic root cause problem solving tools and look for evidence of their use by line teams. Coach individuals to use & apply RCPS tools and methodology (5 whys/DMAIC)
- Identify need for and Launch multi -disciplinary problem-solving teams to address systemic problems
Managing Change for continuous improvement
- Role model the leading and management of change support all Leaders of MMS Projects in Packaging through performance coaching and engagement
- Deliver P4G conversations and personal development plans for all direct reports and hold them accountable for delivery
- Manage Packaging stakeholder relationships, internal and external to achieve world class performance outcomes
- People
- Responsible for resource planning across the packaging lines to ensure delivery of the blueprint plans, ensure 100% cover for all roles including leading the hiring, appraisal and exit management process
- Proactively leverages the learning curriculums and materials on Diageo Academy and other sources to continuously grow to enable self-impact in supporting the teams
Qualifications And Experience Required
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
- Master brewer/IBD certification add advantage
Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in brewing/packaging industry and awareness of production/quality/maintenance technologies and best practices in the FMCG industry
- Experience with quality systems, food safety systems and occupational health and safety management in the food & beverage industries
- Excellent data management and analysis skills is a must.
