Job Summary

The Sales Executive is a six (6) month contract, on-site role based in Zanzibar. This role is responsible for driving sustainable revenue growth by acquiring new merchants, supporting rapid activation, and growing transaction volumes within an assigned territory in line with the country's commercial objectives.

The role requires a strong focus on pipeline generation, conversion, relationship management, and disciplined CRM usage to ensure predictable and scalable revenue performance. The ideal candidate is target-driven, commercially astute, and skilled at consultative selling within the retail and SME segments.

  • Drives rapid merchant activation and ensures sustainable transaction growth in line with Transaction volume targets.
  • Maintains a healthy and qualified sales pipeline aligned with revenue and acquisition goals.
  • Demonstrates disciplined execution, accurate sales forecasting and predictable conversion of prospects into active merchants.

2. Solve for Our Customers:

  • Understands merchant needs and recommends tailored payment solutions that maximize transaction activity.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to upsell and cross-sell products to increase both revenue and transaction value.
  • Ensures high merchant satisfaction and supports early-stage activation to accelerate platform usage and transaction volume growth.
  • Onboards new merchants effectively, contributing to Merchant Acquisition Targets.

  • Collaborate effectively with Marketing, Product, Risk, Tech, and Operations teams to support merchant acquisition and activation.
  • Shares market intelligence and customer insights to improve offerings and pipeline conversion.
  • Supports team initiatives and contributes to collective achievement of Revenue, Merchant Acquisition and Transaction volume Targets.

  • Takes full accountability for achieving assigned targets across all three metrics.
  • Maintains accurate CRM records, timely reporting and structured follow-ups to drive results.
  • Continuously evaluates pipeline and merchant engagement to identify opportunities for improvement and sustained performance.
  • Ensures adherence to internal policies and compliance standards while maintaining high commercial impact.

Key Responsibilities

Merchant Acquisition & Revenue Growth

  • Identify, prospect, and onboard new merchants within the assigned territory.
  • Drive sustainable revenue growth by delivering against assigned commercial targets.
  • Conduct product demonstrations, develop proposals, and negotiate deals within approved pricing guidelines.
  • Convert prospects into successfully onboarded merchants through effective follow-through and structured sales execution.

Pipeline & Sales Execution

  • Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline to ensure strong conversion rates and predictable revenue performance.
  • Proactively manage leads through the full sales cycle — from prospecting to closure and activation.
  • Ensure timely and consistent follow-up on all leads in line with defined SLA timelines.
  • Maintain disciplined and accurate CRM records to support forecasting and performance visibility.

Merchant Activation & Portfolio Growth

  • Support smooth merchant onboarding in compliance with KYC and internal approval procedures.
  • Proactively monitor early-stage merchant activity to ensure timely activation and consistent transaction flow.
  • Engage merchants post-onboarding to address adoption barriers and accelerate transaction growth.
  • Build and maintain long-term merchant relationships to drive retention, portfolio stability, and account growth.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen merchant engagement, increase payment volumes, and expand product usage.

Reporting & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Submit periodic sales reports highlighting performance, pipeline status, and improvement areas.
  • Stay informed on market trends and competitor activity within the territory.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Product, Risk, and Operations to resolve onboarding or operational challenges efficiently.
  • Share field insights to strengthen overall commercial effectiveness.

Must-Have Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales & Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years' proven experience in B2B sales or business development
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving or exceeding Revenue and Acquisition targets
  • Strong understanding of retail and SME market dynamics
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM systems
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili
