Job Profile
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all storage and mixing activities at the BMS Plant to ensure OTIFQ and safety. The role will ensure BMS fertilizer production is managed within budget, achieves cost synergies, aligns resources, and implements world-class practices to optimize performance and ensure the plant realizes its full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee operations and production planning (S&OP) to ensure efficiency, quality control, budgetary control, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
- Ensure proper handling of raw materials and finished products (fertilizer and BMS).
- Operate the BMS Plant according to established standards to deliver the required output.
- Ensure products meet nutrient standards and organic matter requirements.
- Implement preventive maintenance on machines and equipment according to maintenance standards.
- Manage work quality to reduce rework and improve plant reliability.
- Provide teams with the necessary tools and equipment to perform work effectively.
- Report performance against KPIs, formulate insights, and make informed recommendations to the BMS Manager.
- Ensure effective record keeping of work orders, product analysis, and production records.
- Conduct on-the-job training and identify additional training needs where appropriate.
- Support the development and control of the BMS Plant operational budget.
- Monitor and report on BMS Plant and application performance.
- Align BMS Plant performance with business objectives and manage delivery against KPIs.
- Work with the team to plan daily, weekly, and monthly performance targets based on operational goals and customer requirements.
- Identify losses, waste, and barriers to workflow, and prioritize improvement activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, key stakeholders, and third-party suppliers.
- Oversee team performance by identifying KPIs, monitoring progress, and addressing performance concerns.
- Monitor and manage team and individual performance against minimum standards and targets.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste, odour, and runoff management, as well as occupational health and safety standards.
- Adopt and implement agreed best practices, frameworks, and minimum standards for all BMS Plant operations and applications.
- Promote and adhere to Business Unit and Group procedures, policies, and guidelines, including those relating to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Crop Nutrition, Agronomy, Soil Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience in sugar cane agronomy, with at least five years in a leadership or management role.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing strategies through effective management of budgets, people, and resources to achieve business KPIs.
- Excellent business acumen and agronomy expertise, with the ability to anticipate and interpret changes affecting the functional area.
- Experience in fertilizer business development or sales is preferred and considered an added advantage.
