The key purpose of this role is to safely operate forklift equipment, execute loading and unloading activities, maintain inventory accuracy, and ensure adherence to quality, safety, and operational standards while supporting warehouse and distribution efficiency.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Fleet Maintenance

  • Operate and maintain forklift equipment in optimal working condition
  • Complete pre-operation and pre-trip inspection checks before every shift
  • Ensure fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, and other operating fluids are maintained at acceptable levels
  • Adhere to maintenance schedules and promptly report equipment defects

Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Adhere to all company health, safety, environmental, and legal requirements
  • Maintain housekeeping standards within designated warehouse and loading areas
  • Wear the appropriate PPE at all times as required by site regulations
  • Comply with safe stacking and material handling practices

Loading and Unloading Operations

  • Load and unload products in accordance with approved operating procedures
  • Verify quantities against load summaries and dispatch documentation
  • Ensure products are accurately counted during loading and unloading activities
  • Ensure delivery and receiving documentation is properly completed and signed
  • Safely transport products and materials within the warehouse and distribution areas

Stock Quality Management

  • Apply stock rotation principles to maintain stock age compliance
  • Conduct packaging quality checks prior to loading
  • Identify and report damaged stock, packaging defects, or quality concerns
  • Support adherence to warehouse quality standards

Inventory Management

  • Participate in shift handover processes before and after shifts
  • Conduct accurate stock counts and inventory checks
  • Support stock reconciliation activities as required
  • Maintain effective communication with Inventory Analysts, Clerks, and Stock Settlement teams
  • Ensure all inventory records are accurately completed and signed off

Cost Control and Productivity

  • Operate equipment efficiently to achieve fuel usage standards
  • Minimise unnecessary idling, harsh braking, and unsafe driving practices
  • Reduce product losses, damages, and breakages
  • Support productivity targets through efficient material movement

Reporting and Administration

  • Complete pre-trip inspection reports accurately and on time
  • Maintain accurate fuel consumption records
  • Submit operational reports in line with warehouse and logistics requirements
  • Ensure stock count documentation is submitted accurately and within required timelines

Production Support (Where Applicable)

  • Load raw materials and empty containers onto production lines
  • Remove and stack finished goods from production lines
  • Support uninterrupted production and warehouse operations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification
  • Valid Forklift Operator Licence
  • Minimum 3 years' experience operating forklifts within a warehouse, logistics, FMCG, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating double-handler forklifts will be advantageous
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Numeracy and literacy skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, service, and operational excellence
