Job Description

Nyanzaga, Tanzania | 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off roster working on site, in Africa.

Perseus Mining is recruiting a Manager Operational Readiness for the Nyanzaga project in Tanzania. Reporting to the General Manager, this pivotal role will lead the transition from project development to safe, sustainable, and efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the site’s operational readiness plan from design through execution
  • Embed KPIs and accountability frameworks to support operational discipline
  • Coordinate schedules and commissioning with project, engineering, and construction teams
  • Conduct readiness reviews, gap analyses, and risk assessments to manage critical risks
  • Obtain statutory approvals and licences required for operational start-up
  • Establish SOPs, emergency response procedures, and integrated safety systems
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and succession planning for the workforce
  • Champion continuous improvement in efficiency, safety, and cost control
  • Manage contractor mobilisation and alignment with operational requirements
  • Provide senior management with clear reporting on readiness progress, risks, and outcomes

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate deep experience in operational readiness, systems implementation, and workforce mobilisation within large-scale mining operations. Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills are essential to bring together people, processes, and infrastructure into a cohesive and production-ready operation.

To succeed in this role, our ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in open pit mining, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated success in operational readiness, contractor management, and workforce mobilisation
  • Strong focus on systems design, process implementation, and performance measurement
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams in international and remote environments
  • In-depth knowledge of open pit mining methods, equipment, and supporting technologies
  • Proficiency in mine planning or project readiness software
  • Strong understanding of safety and environmental compliance requirements
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and risk management capability
  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage shifting priorities
  • Commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement

It would be beneficial if you have:

  • International operations experience, preferably in Africa
  • Formal training in Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Formal finance education (diploma, pre or post degree)

Where You’ll Be Working

Located in East Africa’s resource rich Lake Victoria Goldfields, the Nyanzaga Gold Project is Perseus’s first operation in Tanzania. Nyanzaga is currently in the early stages of construction, following a Final Investment Decision made in April 2025 with first gold production is targeted for early 2027.

The project places strong emphasis on sustainability and community development, with programs focused on local employment, infrastructure investment, and long-term social and environmental outcomes.
