Job Description
To assist the Process Plant Manager by supervising shift teams, overseeing production and tailings operations, and ensuring the smooth and cost-effective running of the plant. This includes promoting a culture of safety, discipline, and accountability while supporting continuous improvement in plant performance. As a Shift Operations Supervisor, is expected to lead from the field, coordinating and facilitating the execution of the Plant Manager’s production plan while upholding safety and operational procedures to ensure efficient shift performance.
Safety, Health & Environment
- Operate safely and promote proactive safety behaviors
- Conduct daily crew meetings
- Ensure all crew members have and use proper PPE
- Identify and manage shift health and environmental risks
- Maintain housekeeping standards:
- Prevent and report oil spills
- Proper storage of tools and equipment
- Effective waste management in all plant sections
Production Operations
- Set and communicate daily production targets
- Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns
- Maintain awareness of plant performance and take timely corrective actions
- Control plant parameters in line with daily/standing instructions
- Identify and manage or escalate production risks
- Accurately report breakdowns and coordinate timely responses
- Follow call-out protocols to minimize downtime
Cost Management
- Use reagents as specified by Metallurgical Section
- Ensure optimal equipment use (avoid idle running, misuse, etc.)
- Encourage and implement cost-saving initiatives
Team Management
- Identify operator training needs and support skill development
- Monitor timekeeping and enforce shift attendance
- Manage overtime as per departmental policy
- Recognize and reward high performers
- Support disciplinary processes and uphold team accountability
- Foster independence and ownership within the team
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- A-Level or higher with background in Mineral Processing
- Certificate of Secondary Education
- Valid driving license
- Minimum 5 years in mineral processing operations
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or team leader role
Additional Skills
- Strong verbal and written English
- Proven leadership capabilities
- Effective planning and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic software
