DURATION: Not more than 15 – 30 days
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need. In Tanzania, WFP is implementing a five-year Country Strategic Plan (2022–2027), which aims at supporting the government efforts to deliver equitable and inclusive economic growth for the people of the United Republic of Tanzania through investments in human capital, resilient livelihoods, and nutritious diets. The country strategic plan is firmly anchored in and guided by national policy frameworks and the strategic priorities of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
To measure the progress and results of various activities under the Country Strategic Plan, WFP undertakes various project monitoring activities and assessments including baseline, mid-term and endline assessments on regular basis. The results of these exercises are extremely important to WFP as they inform programming and decision making, and contributes to accountability to our donors, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The World Food Program (WFP) Research Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) unit is responsible for coordinating and implementing various food security assessments and monitoring activities, across different projects, activities, and project implementation sites. WFP is seeking to establish a roster of enumerators that can support in the collection of quantitative and qualitative data for assessments and monitoring surveys as may be required.
Under the general supervision of WFP RAM officers or WFP consultant, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks:
- Participate in training and orientation to familiarize oneself on use of quantitative and qualitative data collection tools and how to administer them.
- Participate in household interviews and record accurate results in a digital data collection equipment e.g., tablets, computer or android phone paying a particular attention to quality, to ensure the data reflect the actual situation in the field and meets the objectives of the assessment.
- Participate in traders’ interview in designated markets and record accurate results in tablets, paying a particular attention to quality.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all data collected through household surveys, and FGD and KII proceedings.
- Provide feedback and useful information on daily basis to guide summarizing field findings.
- Submit responses and findings in a timely manner via Mobile Operational Data Acquisition (MODA), - WFP Data Collection Platform.
Accountabilities
- Carry out work diligently, including reaching daily targets, and adhering to the consultant of any breach of WFP ethical principles.
- Give notice of ill-health or other non-attendance timely so that other measures and replacement can be arranged.
- The enumerator will be required to complete an agreed number of samples per day.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of collected data.
- Adhere to ethical standards and maintain participant confidentiality during data collection.
PRIMARY DELIVERABLES:
- As part of the team of enumerators, collect data from agreed number of individuals, households, sites, or markets, using approved tools and methodology. This is a joint deliverable together with the team of enumerators that are recruited for the specific activity.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Have sound interview skills including building rapport with respondents, probing, knowledgeable of the Dos and Don’ts’ while interviewing, eloquent in giving feedback on daily basis to the team lead.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn and adapt to different digital platforms and use tablets/ smart phones.
- Some knowledge of WFP interventions in Tanzania.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to learn and adapt to different digital platforms and use tablets/ smart phones.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
- Sensitivity to cultural nuances and diversity.
- Attendance of WFP organized training and participation in WFP organized surveys and assessments would be an added advantage.
EDUCATION:
Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
LANGUAGE:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Swahili language.
