Job Description

Join us in making a significant impact on the livelihoods of communities affected by large-scale infrastructure projects. As the Head of Livelihoods, you will lead vital restoration programs in the environmental sector, ensuring sustainable development and compliance while working in the vibrant city of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

Role Overview

  • Lead and implement Livelihood Restoration (LR) programmes for households displaced by the project in accordance with the 11 RAPs for Tanzania.
  • Manage a team of 3 direct reports and oversee up to 30 team members.
  • Oversee the implementation plan and schedule for the delivery of the livelihood restoration programme.
  • Collaborate with the LSOC manager for procurement processes for Livelihoods Restoration contractors.
  • Lead, support, and oversee the monitoring and evaluation system for livelihood restoration.
  • Provide QAQC of Livelihoods Restoration Programme implementation to meet international financing requirements.
  • Identify issues for vulnerable households in accessing livelihoods programmes and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor vulnerable and at-risk households' access to livelihood restoration programmes.
  • Identify, onboard, and manage external advisers.
  • Oversee the organization and deployment of LR field teams.
  • Ensure LR field team activities are conducted in line with targets and quality standards.
  • Work with the Livelihoods Supervisor to manage the LR Dar team effectively.
  • Record LR-related issues and grievances in Borealis and escalate as necessary.
  • Ensure reporting of HSE and Security incidents by LR Dar and field teams.
  • Attend weekly planning meetings with Zonal Leads and monthly meetings with LR field teams.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor LR field team performance.
  • Assure the reporting process of the livelihoods restoration programme.
  • Coordinate departmental reporting systems including weekly, monthly, shareholder, and lender audit reports.
  • Engage with NGOs and civil society organizations on land, livelihoods, and social performance.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Environment Provisioning: Expertise in creating sustainable environmental practices.
  • Environmental Compliance Inspection: Ability to ensure adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Environmental Awareness Training Programme: Experience in developing training programs for community awareness.

Education & Experience

  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Development, Social Anthropology, Sociology or related discipline.
  • 10-15 years of proven Project Management experience working within industry or a large organization with a focus on the management of large and diverse professional teams and complex projects, required.
  • Professional experience in land acquisition and livelihood restoration planning, implementation and monitoring, required.
