Job Description

The Project Lead will assist with management of all project activities, in cooperation with and under the direction of the Knowledge Transfer (KT) Manager for Tanzania. This position will be responsible for providing comprehensive information and documentation on the progress of activities and projects in different areas of the country and will be the point of contact for partner organizations. The Project Lead will also be in charge of monitoring and evaluation (M&E), working in coordination with the EWS-KT Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Manager

Roles and Responsibilities

Assisting the KT Manager in supervising implementation of activities

  • Visit field areas and observe implementation of the activities
  • Coordinate with the KT Manager and the Team Leads on actions to be taken and follow up on these actions
  • Coordinate with the country Technical Specialist to follow up on technical observations and knowledge gaps
  • In coordination with the KT Manager and Team Leads, organize reflection meetings on a seasonal basis

Administer KT activities:

  • Coordinate cost and expenses, in collaboration with Finance and field teams
  • Provide staff with support in computer use and reporting
  • Support project activities and organize logistics

Coordinating activities, resources, equipment, and information

  • Monitor working hours, budget, plans, and expenditures
  • Assist in budget preparation, in coordination with the KT Manager
  • Help prepare project proposals, time frames, schedules, and budgets
  • Visit project areas regularly
  • Organize logistics for in-country training of staff
  • Follow up and advise on the use of new technology for staff
  • Organize and follow up on logistical support to field staff and key farmers
  • Ensure operations adhere to EWS-KT policies and regulations

Monitoring and evaluation

  • Supervise the implementation of field activities
  • Implement and follow up on M&E tools
  • Participate actively in the elaboration and reviews of the M&E system for project activities
  • Visit project areas regularly
  • Monitor and track project progress (demo farm records, training participation, monitoring data from partners, etc.) and handle any issues that arise
  • Coordinate with the EWS-KT Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Manager
  • Produce a monthly analysis of data and participant attendance in report format to inform the KT Manager
  • Archive photos from field visits and demo plots

Communication

  • Act as the project point of contact for partners and other stakeholders and communicate project status adequately to EWS-KT, partners, and stakeholders
  • Coordinate and liaise with partners and East-West Seed
  • Coordinate public communications with the EWS-KT global communications team
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports
  • Help to prepare presentations for workshops, trainings, and conferences
  • Help to develop extension materials
  • Help to translate documents

Developing project proposals

  • Prepare groundwork for project proposals in terms of logistics, budget, and data, under the direction of the KT Manager and the EWS-KT Director
  • Gather information on pilot phase ideas and innovations

Reporting Structure

  • The Project Lead will report to, and work under the direction of, the KT Manager for Tanzania.
  • The Project Lead will coordinate M&E with the EWS-KT Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Manager.

Minimum Requirements (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in agriculture or a related fields in project management
  • Experience in writing reports and partner-directed communications
  • Knowledge of and experience in M&E
  • Good understanding of M&E tools
  • Good understanding of vegetable production and the vegetable market in Tanzania
  • Excellent internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in any local language and in English
  • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Independent thinking, practically oriented, and able to make good and fast decisions
  • An analytical mind with proactive and creative problem-solving skills and analytical skills in qualitative and quantitative data
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project management tools
  • Good team player able to work with local organizations
  • You will be required to travel in project areas at least 2 weeks per month
