Job Description
UNICEF is recruiting a Child Protection Specialist (Alternative Care) to strengthen child protection systems and support the reform of alternative care in Dodoma, United Republic of Tanzania. The role supports the Government to transition from institutional to family-based care and to ensure that all children are protected from violence, exploitation, and harmful practices
Key Responsibilities
Alternative Care Reform & Family-Based Care
- Provide technical support to the government on the development and implementation of alternative care programmes
- Promote family-based alternative care and support the deinstitutionalization of children
Inclusion & Disability
- Promote the needs and rights of children with disabilities within alternative care reforms
- Support cross-sectoral inclusion initiatives for children with disabilities
Social Welfare Workforce Strengthening
- Support capacity building of Social Welfare Officers
- Contribute to the implementation of the Social Welfare Roadmap
Child Protection Systems Strengthening
- Support budgeting, planning and monitoring of child protection reforms at national and local levels
- Conduct field monitoring visits and track fund utilization
Programme Development, Monitoring & Reporting
- Lead technical and administrative tasks to support programme development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
Volunteerism & Knowledge Sharing
- Contribute to UNV publications and promote volunteerism
- Support onboarding of new UN Volunteers and local volunteer initiatives
Profile Required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Human Rights, Psychology, Sociology, International Law, or related social sciences
- (Professional qualification as a Social Worker is an asset)
Professional Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant professional experience
- Experience working with districts, local NGOs, and community-based organizations
- Background in emergency programming is an asset
Languages
- English: Fluent (required)
Skills
- Strong drafting, reporting, and communication skills
- Ability to work inclusively with grassroots, faith-based, youth, and government partners
- Solid computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, databases, internet)
- Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision and tight deadlines
