Job Description

To oversee and ensure that all company operations, projects, and facilities comply with national environmental regulations and international environmental standards. The Environmental Specialist Officer plays a key role in promoting sustainable practices, monitoring environmental impacts, and coordinating environmental assessments and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Registration or certification with NEMC or relevant professional board (preferred).
  • At least 3 years’ experience in environmental compliance, preferably in the transport or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Tanzanian environmental laws, policies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with EIAs, EMPs, and environmental monitoring tools.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • In-depth understanding of environmental risks and sustainability strategies.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach to compliance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor environmental compliance of all operational activities, especially those involving vehicle emissions, fuel handling, and waste disposal.
  • Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental Audits (EAs), and prepare required reports for government authorities.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental regulations as outlined by NEMC, OSHA, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Implement and monitor Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and suggest improvements.
  • Develop, implement, and update environmental policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Educate and train staff on environmental protection, sustainability practices, and emergency response related to environmental hazards.
  • Monitor and report on air quality, noise levels, water usage, and waste management in depots, workshops, and stations.
  • Investigate environmental complaints, incidents, or violations, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Liaise with environmental regulators, consultants, and community stakeholders.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and recommend technologies or methods that reduce environmental footprint.
