Job Description
Job Title: FTTx Supervisor
Location: Tanzania
Department: Operations / Projects
Reports To: Project Manager / Deployment Manager
Job Purpose
The FTTx Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating field activities related to Fiber-to-the-X (FTTx) projects, including survey, design validation, fiber deployment, splicing, termination, and testing. The role ensures that all work is executed according to project specifications, quality standards, safety guidelines, and within set timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage daily field operations for FTTx deployment (aerial and underground).
- Coordinate with subcontractors, site teams, and contractors to ensure smooth execution of work.
- Monitor survey, trenching, duct laying, pole installation, fiber blowing/pulling, splicing, and termination activities.
- Validate work against design documents and resolve on-site discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) regulations.
- Verify and maintain daily progress reports, material usage, and manpower deployment.
- Conduct quality inspections to ensure installation meets project and industry standards.
- Coordinate with Right of Way (RoW) teams for site access and permissions.
- Support in acceptance testing (OTDR, power meter, etc.) and handover documentation.
- Report progress, challenges, and risks to the Project Manager on a regular basis.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma/Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Electronics, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in FTTx / Fiber Optic deployment projects (FTTH, FTTB, FTTC).
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic installation, splicing, testing (OTDR, LSPM), and troubleshooting.
- Experience in managing subcontractors and field teams.
- Familiarity with local regulations and RoW acquisition processes in Tanzania (an advantage).
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD basics, and project reporting tools.
