Overview

Tarime District Council administers Tarime District, one of the seven districts in Tanzania’s Mara Region. The council was officially formed on 1 January 1984 under the Local Government (District Authorities) Act of 1982, and operates within the framework set by Tanzania’s Local Government Reform Programme to enhance public service delivery.

Geographically, Tarime District spans approximately 1,371 km² and is located in northwestern Tanzania. It shares borders with Kenyan counties Migori, Trans Mara, and Kuria East and West to the north and east, while to the south it borders Serengeti and Butiama Districts across the Mara River, and Rorya District to the west. Tarime town serves as the administrative capital.
