Job Description

The Chief Cashier plays a vital supervisory and operational role in the branch's cash management. Key responsibilities center on ensuring the security, accuracy, and compliance of all cash transactions, from teller activities to regulatory deposits. The role involves managing the daily flow of currency and safeguarding the bank's cash assets.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Chief Cashier is responsible for assisting the Branch Manager in managing cash resources and effectively coordinating the work of all tellers within the branch.

Specific duties include:

• Checking and recounting cash received from the tellers.
• Depositing and withdrawing cash with the Bank of Tanzania (BOT).
• Conducting snap checks on the vault cash deposits to verify the propriety of the amounts.
• Preparing daily cash positions for various currencies.
• Authorizing cash receipts (deposits) processed by tellers.
• Keeping custody of the strong room keys and ensuring the safety of cash and documents stored there.
• Managing cash exchange between tellers and overseeing the handover process when a till is taken over by another teller.
• Undertake till balancing and administration activities in an effective and compliant manner.
• Requesting explanations from Tellers regarding any cash shortages or excesses.
• Loading cash onto the ATM machines.
• Coordinating and rotating tellers across different functions (e.g., front office, bulk cash, BOT cash counting).
• Carrying out spot checks over teller’s cash balances or cash deposited at the vault.
• Informing the I.T. department immediately whenever there are technical problems impacting operations.
