Reports To: Senior Manager, Commercial Banking
Responsible For: Business Development and Relationship Management of the Bank's Commercial Portfolio
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Additional hours as required by workload.
Purpose of the Job
The Relationship Manager – Commercial Banking is responsible for driving the growth of assets, liabilities, and profitability within the Commercial Banking portfolio by acquiring new clients, delivering tailored financial solutions, and strengthening existing client relationships. The role focuses on identifying market opportunities, expanding the commercial client base, delivering exceptional customer service, maximizing wallet share, ensuring compliance with credit and risk policies, and enhancing the bank's brand presence in the region. The position requires a strong balance of business development, credit structuring, and portfolio management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and engage prospective commercial banking clients, ensuring successful onboarding in line with the bank's growth strategy.
- Develop and implement client acquisition strategies to expand the commercial banking portfolio within the assigned region.
- Achieve assigned targets for portfolio growth, revenue generation, and product penetration in line with the bank's commercial banking strategy.
- Promote and cross-sell commercial banking products and services, including lending, trade finance, deposits, and cash management.
- Grow well-priced assets and cost-effective long-term liabilities by targeting reputable companies and organizations to maximize profitability.
- Maintain and strengthen customer relationships through regular visits and structured engagement with existing and prospective clients.
- Deliver professional financial solutions and competitive pricing that meet customer needs.
- Position the bank as the preferred financial partner by building long-term customer relationships.
- Establish and maintain high-quality, profitable customer relationships within the commercial banking segment.
- Monitor portfolio performance to maintain asset quality, proactively manage risks, and minimize Non-Performing Loans (NPLs).
- Ensure compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Master's degree or professional qualifications such as CFA, ACCA, or CPA will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in relationship management within a commercial or corporate banking environment.
Key Competencies
- Proven ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities and convert prospects into long-term clients.
- Strong credit analysis skills, including financial statement analysis, credit proposal preparation, and risk assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial banking products, including trade finance, working capital, term loans, deposits, and cash management.
- Good understanding of economic, industry, and competitor trends affecting commercial banking.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in structured trade finance and project financing is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili.
- Ability to assess customer needs and recommend suitable financial solutions.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel frequently to support business objectives.
