Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Environment & Community Relations

  • Review employment practices and working conditions to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and company policies.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures relating to safety, environment, health, and community relations.
  • Lead site initiatives to improve awareness and understanding of equipment safety.
  • Ensure safety standards for equipment and installations are maintained across all areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Perseus Occupational Health, Safety, Environment (OHSE) and Community Relations policies and procedures.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring maintenance personnel understand their Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) responsibilities and are held accountable through established management and disciplinary processes.
  • Maintain a sound understanding of Tanzanian mining legislation and engineering safety requirements.
  • Actively participate in incident investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Foster positive relationships with local communities by recognising the impact that employment and workplace practices can have on community engagement.

People Management

  • Act as the Maintenance Superintendent, when required, providing leadership and direction to the Maintenance team while ensuring high-quality outcomes and compliance with company procedures.
  • Lead by example, maintaining professionalism and sound decision-making under pressure while promoting teamwork and a positive working culture.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and conflict resolution to support employee development.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of formal training and competency assessment programs for maintenance personnel.
  • Manage the performance and development of direct reports through coaching, training, regular performance feedback, annual performance reviews, and recognition programs to enhance individual capability and operational performance.

Operations

  • Assume responsibility for planning, coordinating, and controlling site maintenance activities when required.
  • Ensure maintenance work is planned and executed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timeframes.
  • Support the induction, training, and competency development of engineering and maintenance personnel.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) for maintenance activities.
  • Monitor plant availability, equipment downtime, maintenance performance, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing reports as required.
  • Support the management of maintenance assets through the Pronto Maintenance Management System.
  • Lead reliability improvement initiatives by identifying equipment performance issues and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Attend operational and business planning meetings as directed by the Process Manager to understand long-term maintenance priorities and develop equipment downtime forecasts.
  • Continuously identify and implement opportunities to improve maintenance practices, reliability, efficiency, and overall business performance.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the maintenance management system through measurable performance improvement initiatives.
  • Minimise maintenance and processing costs while maintaining or exceeding plant availability and production targets.
  • Assist with the preparation, management, and monitoring of operational and maintenance budgets and forecasts.
  • Manage maintenance personnel administration, including timesheets, leave, training records, and other employment-related documentation.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of 12 years' experience in mechanical maintenance within an operating mineral processing plant.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in maintaining gold processing plant equipment, including crushers, conveyors, mills, pumps, tank circuits, reagent systems, and associated support systems.
  • Minimum of 7 years' supervisory experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage individuals and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactive approach to plant maintenance with a strong commitment to implementing best maintenance practices and maintaining accurate maintenance records.
  • Extensive experience in long-term maintenance planning, major shutdowns, plant overhauls, and capital project execution.
  • Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Experience managing spare parts inventory and warehouse stock for maintenance operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organisational levels.
  • Strong report-writing skills, including the preparation of maintenance reports, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and technical presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, manage, and monitor departmental maintenance budgets.
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience using the Pronto Maintenance Management System.
  • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with power generation or power station equipment.

Qualifications & Licences

Essential

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related mechanical trade from a recognised institution.
  • Valid driver's licence.

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Supervisory or Frontline Management qualification.
  • Qualification in business or organisational management.
  • Technical qualifications relevant to mineral processing plant equipment and maintenance systems.
  • Certification in condition monitoring and lubrication practices.
  • Occupational Health and Safety qualification.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Relevant operating licences or certifications, including crane operation, lifting and rigging, and other mobile or fixed plant equipment.
  • Formal qualification in training and competency assessment.
