Job Purpose

The role is responsible to turn governed Bank data into accurate, timely and decision-ready insight. The role frames analytical questions with business stakeholders, performs descriptive and diagnostic analysis, and develops reports and dashboards using certified datasets and approved KPI definitions. The role improves decision-making, reduces conflicting numbers and unnecessary extracts, and promotes controlled self-service analytics.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Partner with business units (e.g., Retail, Corporate, Cards, Agency, Digital, Credit, Finance) to define analytical questions, perform descriptive and diagnostic analysis, and deliver insight with clear recommendations and quantified business impact.
  • Design, build and maintain reports and dashboards (primarily Power BI) on certified datasets and the governed semantic layer, applying the Bank’s visual, performance and row-level security standards.
  • Define and document KPIs, calculation rules and filters with Data Owners, register them in the business glossary through the Metadata function, and ensure each KPI is calculated once and reused across reports.
  • Gather and document reporting and analysis requirements, acceptance criteria and data needs; work with Data Modelers and Integration Specialists where new data or models are required.
  • Validate outputs against source systems, GL and control totals before release; investigate breaks and anomalies and raise data quality issues to the Data Governance & Quality Unit with evidence.
  • Deliver ad-hoc analysis and management packs for senior leadership and committees within agreed turnaround times, with clear, concise narrative.
  • Support customer segmentation, product and channel performance, portfolio and cross-sell analysis, and benefits tracking for strategic initiatives, using MDM golden records once available.
  • Identify duplicate, unused or conflicting reports for consolidation; promote certified self-service datasets and train business users to use them correctly.
  • Handle data according to classification, least-privilege access and the Personal Data Protection Act 2022; apply masking/aggregation where personal data is not required and maintain documentation and version control for all reports.
  • Prepare analytical datasets and feature inputs for the Data Science team and apply basic statistical techniques (trend, cohort, variance, forecasting) where appropriate.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in data analytics, business intelligence, or data management, such as Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), or other recognized analytics and statistics certifications, will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Management Information Systems (MIS), Reporting, Data Warehousing, Data Governance, or a related data management field.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency on Oracle and SQL Server for data extraction, analysis, validation, and reporting, with expertise in Power BI development, including data modelling, DAX, Power Query, row-level security, performance tuning, and SSAS Tabular.
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, statistical modelling, visualisation, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong data storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear insights, findings, and recommendations for executive decision-making.
  • Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK2 Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence, with working knowledge of Data Quality, Metadata Management, Data Modelling, Data Security, and EDM Council DCAM analytics management and data quality capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, semantic layers, data warehouse concepts, descriptive and inferential statistics, and the use of certified data and governed KPI definitions.
  • Knowledge of banking products, financial statements, and key banking KPIs, including CASA growth, loan-to-deposit ratio, NPL ratio, cost-to-income ratio, customer activity, and channel performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of T24 data structures, Bank of Tanzania regulatory and management reporting requirements, the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, and Agile delivery methodologies for analytics.
  • Design, build, maintain, and optimize reports and dashboards using certified datasets and governed semantic layers, applying approved performance, visualisation, documentation, access, and version control standards.
  • Develop and document KPI definitions, calculation rules, filters, analytical requirements, acceptance criteria, data needs, and dependencies with Data Owners and business stakeholders, and implement approved definitions through reusable governed logic.
  • Validate analytical outputs and datasets against authorised sources, control totals, and approved business rules, document evidence, prepare quality-assured analytical datasets for Data Science use cases, and escalate material discrepancies to the appropriate owner.
  • Analyse customer, product, channel, and portfolio performance using governed data, including approved MDM golden records, and conduct basic statistical, trend, cohort, and variance analysis to support business decision-making.
